Piana delle Orme Museum
Borgo San Michele, Italy
October 2021 and August 1998

I came across the Piana delle Orme Museum for the first time, almost by accident, in 1998 as it was being setup. The only aircraft they had then was the EC-119G Flying Boxcar which had just arrived from nearby Pratica di Mare. |

The real MM80074 was serial 37266 delivered to the US Navy and transferred to the Italian Air Force in July 1953 and struck off charge in December 1959. N7486C was registered in 1961 and eventually made it to the Fighter Collection at Duxford in 1993 who transferred it to the Italian AF Museum at Vigna di Valle as part of a four aircraft exchange deal. It was only put on display at Vigna di Valle in 1996 as N7486C. It was later restored as 'MM80074' and then loaned to Piana delle Orme museum, Borgo Faiti, Latina where it moved to in 2017. |
