RAF Typhoon FGR.4 (ZK304 'FM') of 1(F) Squadron returning to RAF Coningsby late on a winter afternoon during a stunning sunset, after a solo training flight.
These moments are very brief and only captured in the winter months on sunny afternoons with scattered cloud. It is important to have the settings that capture the highlights but still reveal detail in the shadows. Canon EF400mm f2.8L IS II USM set at 1/1250th at f14, ISO 100. |
November 2015
With so many special tails around and with the four Typhoons having recently returned from the Falkland Islands after being away since 2009 it was a good time to re-visit Coningsby especially as the forecast was perfect for a descent sunset with good light most of the day.

November 2015
With so many special tails around and with the four Typhoons having recently returned from the Falkland Islands after being away since 2009 it was a good time to visit Coningsby. At 09:30 the sounds of Typhoons drifted across to the eastern end and the scanner anounced that a seven-ship was about to launch for a photo-shoot. Shortly after the four special talis and one of the Falklands jets were all taxiing to the holding point. Unfortunately the weather was very cloudy all day and not as forecast.
