United States

On the road again..... Firefighting aircraft can be found across the United States. The more interesting are modifcations of former military aircraft that have already served the country well. The images below are a collection of aircraft discovered while travelling around the country.

The first Guardians were delivered for testing in June 1950 before entering service on aircraft carriers in December of that year. Guardians served on Navy carriers until 1955 when the last of them were sent to reserve squadrons before their retirement from military service in 1957. Of the 389 Guardians built only five survived scrapping when purchased for conversion for firefighting. They flew with the Aero Union Corporation in California until 1973.
