Boeing AH-64DN Apache with 301 Squadron Royal Netherlands Air Force (Koninklijke Luchtmacht) based at Gilze-Rijen. |
Thursday October 10, 2019 On my fourth and the only sunny day of a very quiet week at GLV-5 I feel very lucky to have witnessed some dramatic flying by the friendly aircrew of AH-64 Apache.

Wednesday October 9, 2019 Tuesday was a blank but today was saved by a mid-afternoon Chinook dropping in to a remote confined landing area twice which was a challenge to get to in time. Dull with light rain over most of the day.

Monday October 7, 2019 A dull cloudy and productive day on GLV-5 with a pair of Chinook spending many hours in confined landing area and conducting sandy brown-out landings and some very impressive dynamic low flying at treetop heights.

GLV-5 is really an area for the ground forces to train. |

The AS532U2 Cougars from 300 squadron were night flying throughout the week. Departing Gilze Rijen at around 18:30 a Cougar each evening appeared to operate around GLV-5 from after 19:00 when it was quite dark. Each morning tell tale Chinook 'prints' were found in the sand. |
