The Glenn L. Martin Maryland Aviation Museum (now part of Maryland Aerospace Foundation), located at Martin State Airport, showcases the state's rich aviation heritage, with a focus on the Glenn L. Martin Company and Lockheed Martin. Visiting the museum is an unusual experience. After passing through an airport security gate, you enter a large hangar housing engaging displays, artifacts, and information panels.
But where are the aircraft? Surprisingly you are eventually invited to follow a volunteer driving his car out of through the security gate and down the road to another gate. Once back on the airfield you approach an outdoor flight line of around 15 aircraft. The guide leads visitors along the aircraft line, providing information about each exhibit and allowing time for photography.
Excitingly, the museum has recently secured a lease with the Maryland Aviation Administration for the former Lockheed Martin Administration building, a 150,000-square-foot facility on 23 acres, promising an even brighter future for the museum. |
