That's me, in the seat where Howard Hughes was photographed before he piloted this famous Hughes H-4 Hercules dubbed the 'Spruce Goose' by its critics to the air for the first and last time on November 2, 1947. Designed and built by the Hughes Aircraft Company, it is largest flying boat ever built. Hughes kept the aircraft in fully working order in storage until his death in 1976 at his Long Beach facility. From 1980 till 1992 it was moved outside for public viewing. It was moved the McMinnville in 1992. |
