On the road again..... Aircraft wrecks and relics found along the road side when travelling from base to base, museum to museum in the United States. |
Left to right July 2023: Republic F-84F Thunderstreak (51-1631). Built in 1951 to serve with 366th Tactical Fighter Wing (TFW) at England AFB in Louisana before it was transferred to the 4520th TFW at Nellis AFB, Nevada, then assigned to 122 TFW at Baer Field, Fort Wayne Indiana and finally with New Jersey ANG 141st Fighter Squadron (FS). Retired in 1971. It was renovated by the Veterans of Foreign Wars in 2012. On display at the Community Park in Monroeville.

Left to right July 2023: Douglas F5D-1 Skylancer (142350, NASA213, NASA802) used at Edwards AFB as flying test bed for radar systems, instruments and armament, assigned to NACA Ames Aeronautical Laboratory, NAS Moffett Field, later the NASA Ames Research Center 1957 to 1961. Later used for flying qualities, stability and control, and performance evaluations and as test bed for supersonic research and to train pilots for the X-20 Dyna-Soar program. Retired in 1970. Neil Armstrong flew the aircraft. On display outside the Neil Armstrong Air & Space Museum, Wapakoneta. |

Terlingua Ranch, Texas. This is the most remote landing strip I have visited, a 16 miles dirt track from the main road just north of Big Bend National Park. A few weeks earlier Special Forces with OV-22 Osprey had used this strip. |
