A brief photo-report using scanned film taken aboard USS Iwo Jima, embarked were US Marine Corps (USMC) elements of a Marine Amphibious Unit (MAU). During its UK visit it was moored in Liverpool Docks.
The USS Iwo Jima was the first amphibious assault ship to be designed and built from the keel up as a dedicated helicopter assault carrier. It was commissioned in 1961 and decommissioned in 1993. |
