Celebrating 60 Years of MCAS Yuma
35,000 spectators attended the 57th Annual Yuma air show which in 2019 was celebrating 60 years of MCAS Yuma. Originally Vincent Air Force Base, it was transferred from the US Air Force to the US Navy, and finally from the Navy to the Marine Corps in 1959.
There were demonstrations by units based at MCAS Yuma utilising the; AV-8B Harrier II, F-35B Lightning II, F-5N Tiger II, and MV-22B Osprey. The air show also included performers like the Shockwave Jet Truck, the Yellow Thunder T-6’s from Canada, and the Southern California Commemorative Air Force which included a re-enactment of Pearl Harbor with the Tora Tora Tora Commemorative Air Force and the HH-1N Iroquois Search & Rescue Demonstration. The USMC VMX-1 also flew AH-1, MV-22 and UH-1 as a mini Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) Demo. The USAF attended with the A-10 Thunderbolt II which flew with the P-51D Mustang in the A-10 Heritage Flight. |
