331 Skv based at Bodø were operating from Karup Air Station, Denmark with five General Dynamics F-16AM Fighting Falcons. On September 23 four F-16s received fuel from a 100 ARW KC-135R Stratotanker using callsign 'Texaco 63' operating from RAF Mildenhall, on their outward leg from Denmark against the Electronic Warfare Tactics range at RAF Spadeadam in northern England.
Exactly on time at 08:25 the four Norwegian Air Force F-16AMs using callsigns ‘Wolf 03’ to ‘Wolf 06’. Each aircraft initially took 6,000 pounds of fuel but they returned to take a 500 pound top-up before departing at 08:50 for the target. |
