Portuguese Air Force - Força Aérea Portuguesa
Sintra Base Aérea 1
Looking Back (to my pre-digital camera days)
Portugal June 1984
Following a visit to the Força Aérea Portuguesa HQ in Lisbon we were given permission to visit a series of air bases, including the Museu do Ar's stored aircraft at Sintra.
The Museu do Ar (Air Museum) was formed in 1968 in a former military hangar at Alverca Air Base. The museum opened to the public in 1971. Some of its collection were stored at this time at Sintra Air Base awaiting restoration. In 2009 a new museum building was built at Sintra Air Base most of the restored collection of aircraft were transferred there.
