Nellis AFB is the home of 57th Wing (WG) which has four groups: 57th Operations Group (OG), 57th Adversary Tactics Group (ATG), 57th Maintenance Group and the USAF Weapons School (WPS).
The USAF display team the Thunderbirds are also based here.
The 57 OG is responsible for running two combat training exercises, known as Red Flag and Green Flag. The ten day Red Flag exercises are held four or more times a year and are run directly by the 414th Combat Training Squadron. The Green Flag exercises are operated by the 548th CTS (Green Flag-East) and 549th CTS (Green Flag-West) inconjunction with the US Army.
The 57 ATG consists of the 64th Aggressor Squadron (AGRS) flying F-16C/D Fighting Falcon's and the 65th AGRS with F-15C/D Eagles.
The USAF Weapons School comprises 16 squadrons, nine of which are based at Nellis and is tasked with providing weapons instructor courses for all relevant USAF aircraft. Nellis based squadrons include; 16th WPS (F-16), 17th WPS (F-15E), 34th WPS (HH-60), 66th WPS (A-10) and 433rd WPS (F-15C). |
