| Aircraft Survivors 'Diamonds and Rust' Reports of Museums, Restored, Preserved and Lingering Aircraft |
| Aviation Heritage Photography - To me a vintage or veteran aircraft is a thing of beauty, even if it no longer flies. Thousands of aircraft exist long after their life in the air has ended. They survive because there are aviation enthusiasts who believe significant aircraft should be saved and not scrapped. Our aviation heritage consists of grounded aircraft being safeguarded by finding their way into ever expanding museums, to be appreciated by future generations. A country’s national aviation museum should look to preserve examples of each type of aircraft their nation has produced. It could be the first or only example produced, or it was the last to fly before the type’s retirement. An aircraft is often preserved because it performed a significant flight, or a landmark achievement or is a record-breaker. It could survive by luck, just as a representative example of the aircraft type. |
